RS 2 Planet Money Katy Perry

This blog post is my take on the podcast "The Friday Podcast: Katy Perry's Perfect Year".  This podcast was recored on January 20, 2012 on Planet Money.  The main point of this podcast is how Katy Perry made bank in 2011.  She had five number one hits in 2011 the most since Michael Jackson had this many number one singles.  Katy Perry having five number one singles was surprising to me.  They also talk about have record companies been planning how to make more money now that everyone downloads music for free online.  The record companies dont make as much money as they use too.
The record companies made up a deal called the 360 deal so the record companies make money off the artist toures, merchandise, and record sales.  But most of the time the record companies made more off the toures and merchandise, not the record sales.  There is only three major recording labels today.
The podcast people say that the record companies are not really record companies anyone they are more like parters with the artistes.  This all has to do with economics.  I think Professor Engel assigned us to listen to this podcast because it talks about an economic standpoint in real life.  Who knew if Katy Perry kissed a girl, everyone would like it.........
